"The Lugar Series has helped me to define my career goals and has helped me to develop the confidence to pursue these goals. I feel much more a part of the the Republican family and am better situated to take on leadership roles in the party and in my community."

Each year up to twenty outstanding Republican women are selected for the program through a competitive selection process. Members of each class have diverse personal and professional life experiences and represent women of all ages and from every corner of Indiana. Women who have demonstrated extensive leadership skills in the workplace or in community service and who are committed to the full participation of women in politics and government are encouraged to apply. While some graduates of the Lugar Series pursue full-time public sector employment, others are interested in serving on policy boards and commissions or running for public office. Whatever a participant’s interest, the Lugar Series serves as a springboard to new levels of personal achievement and public involvement.

  • To provide a first-class leadership training experience on a scholarship basis for outstanding Hoosier women
  • To encourage, mentor and prepare selected women leaders to seek new levels of involvement in government and politics
  • To provide participants access to political and government leaders responsible for candidate recruitment and/or appointments
  • To establish an active core of highly qualified women who are educated and motivated to assume key roles in public service
  • To form an effective and diverse statewide political network for women
